We’re hiring!

We are seeking two post-doctoral researchers with an interest in biodiversity, illegal wildlife trade and security issues to join our high profile ERC-funded project from September 2017 - August 2020.

We are seeking two post-doctoral researchers with an interest in biodiversity, illegal wildlife trade and security issues to join our new European Research Council (ERC) funded project BIOSEC Biodiversity and Security: Understanding environmental crime, illegal wildlife trade and threat finance.

BIOSEC is a EURO 1.8 million ERC Advanced Investigator grant led by Professor Rosaleen Duffy in the Department of Politics, University of Sheffield. It critically examines the recent claims that wildlife poaching and trafficking constitute a serious global security threat. The posts will offer the successful candidates the opportunity to pursue innovative research in one of the UK’s leading departments of Politics.

The Fellowships run for 3 years, from September 2017 until August 2020, and are based in Sheffield with the opportunity to carry out international fieldwork.  Applications are welcomed from candidates who already have a good honors degree and have completed a PhD (or are nearing completion) on biodiversity conservation in any of the sub-fields of Politics and International Relations, Human Geography or Development Studies. You should also possess knowledge and experience of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, be able to work as part of team and a proven track record of successfully managing a research project over a long period of time. Successful candidates will be expected to build on existing links to other Departments and Centres at the University, notably the Sheffield Institute for International Development (SIID), the Department of Geography and the Department of Animal and Plant Sciences.

The closing date for applications is 13th April 2017.

More information about the posts, including detailed information about both Work Packages, can be found on the jobs.ac.uk website.  For informal enquiries about the posts and the recruiting department, please contact Professor Rosaleen Duffy on r.v.duffy@sheffield.ac.uk. Administrative queries should be directed to the BIOSEC Project Manager Ruth Wilson via ruth.wilson@sheffield.ac.uk .

You can follow our Twitter account @biosec_erc for updates on the project.
